my 50D battery died after I shot 4 shots so I could not get anything I wanted , next year I go back this place , I will bring my D300 , which last forever on a charge ,the biggest issue with the 50D is its battery life on a charge , I remember that my 40D could shoot more on a charge.
so after this , I decided when I go out with my 50D I bring my 450D or 400D also but they dont share the battery with my 50D , it is a serious problem , my Nikon D200, D300 and D80 share the same battery and last much longer on a charge than any of Canon APS-C bodies.
oh , I also found the IS lens , especially these with better IS like this 70-200f4 L IS , 70-300DOIS , EF24-105f4LIS the 50D last much shorter than with the kit lens or EF-S17-85IS kind of lens , maybe the better , more effective IS requires more juice.
I hope 60D or whatever replaces the 50D will have longer battery life like my D300 , at least last a couple of days(with 600 shots a day average).
I probably shun the 50D replacemnet since I am quite happy with my 50D and D300 , and getting the 5D2 , but if the 50D replacement (say , 60D) has 20 or more megapixels I will get it for cropping but if it is less than 18mp , no need it.
UPDATE: now , I have a couple of EOS50D , along with my D300 and D90's , I think the D90 has the best battery life but I prefer Canon UIF and ergonomics , I have issues with the 300 ergonomics ,especialy the horrible grip design...........
I think the D90 ergonomics ia about ideal but its UIF is not really great at all.
Noise level is ideantical but I dislike D90 high ISO (water pain like artifacts), the superfically less noisy look of D90 high ISO images comes at the cost of detail and color fidelity...........
Any way, the over hyped 51pt AF is not as great as many Nikon fans believe it to be cause Nikon lacks a set of USM primes.
The D90 AF is actually quite good , not as good as the D300 AF in tracking but in low light sensitivity , as it is a newer camera , the D90 has the edge over the D300.
But one thing, as a dual system user, I can't understand about these so-called reviews is why all so-called pro reviewers on line lie about the fact and brain wash people to believe newer Nikon models are much less noisy than Canon couterparts or much better AF wise , especially in speed.....................in fact, Canon still has a bit better sensor , I think everybody measured these sensors themselves agrees with me, I mean really compared and analyzed it with RAW practitiner or Iris .etc , not silly 100 crop converted image comparison like many so-called review sites do.
You can not see noise difference between Canon and Nikon in such a primitive way of testing..............
And as for the AF speed , the 50D is faster than any of Nikon ,even including the D3 , I tested side by side , well, Nikon tracks a bit better but as it comes to pure speed contest , Canon wins.
Plus, many of Nikon lenses are old and less resistant to flare than many of Canon f4L zooms...............when I rented the 24-70f2.8 N lens , I was schocked how easily that lens flared and I decided go against it.
The 14-24 also is over rated , it is a superb lens optically but what is the point having such a huge and expensive lens without filter thread?
I much prefer my 17-40f4L and I think the 16-35f2.8USM is the best UWA if I can justify its rather high price , I will get the 16-35L.............but I have more important priorities such as EF135f2L , EF35f1.4L and Sigma 50f1.4HSM , all of which I once had and sold for Nikon lenses and now need to get them back.
And finally, in my not at all humble opinion , the Nikon AFS70-200f2.8Vr and 17-55f2.8DX are truely craps , I used 3 copies of the 17-55f2.8DX , to compare to my excellent copy of Tamron 17-50f2.8 and Canon EF24-105f4LISUM , the Canon and Tamron are much better lens optically.
The 70-200f2..8VR is even worse , no comparison to my EF70-200f4LISUSM in the corners.
So, I wonder why Nikon sytem rated so high and why most of internet reviewers prefer Nikon over Canon...................I think while Nikon system is good but as a whole system, it is at best second best system next to Canon ,not the ablosute best.............
I think these review sites never get it body comes after lenses, lenses are much more important .......................if I did not spend this much of money on Nikon , I 'd buy a 5D2 +35f1.4L.
But oh well, I guess, I just learned this , never trsut reviews and others but my own experience and computer programs......................DCRAW, IRIS , RAW-Analyzer , RAW-practitiner .etc........................DXO is not a good program to test RAW data of cameras either, not as bad as ACR , though.............ACR just tries to hide flaws not show it to you so it is useless for testing actual sensor performance but most of SO-CALLED reviews use it so what you can expect from their so-called noise tests..
I have always been drawn to minimalistic b&w scenes. This is my attempt to create one. Its no masterpiece, but its a start. There are so many talented Flickr photogs who pull this off flawlessly. You know who you are, thanks for all your inspiration :) Look forward to catching up on your streams soon. Have a great weekend!
